Let the real winners step forth
Although the popular event at Pickering Museum Village saw rain on and off throughout the day, over 1000 visitors came to celebrate at the Fall Family Festival. Event sponsor, Veridian, made it possible for free admission and parking for the many families attending what has become a favourite family tradition in Durham Region.
PMV Foundation Chair, Pat Dunnill again came up with an amazing collection of auction, prize and raffle items, the most unusual was a Demetrios wedding dress from San Jude’s in Ajax, and the foundation introduced a new fundraising approach for this, on-line advance bidding.
The 3rd Annual Rubber Duckie RACE, sponsored by Meridian Credit Union, Veridian, OPG and PineRidge Arts Council saw 993 yellow quackers floating down Duffins Creek on their way to the finish line. The lucky winners of the race were: first place duck adopted by Pickering’s Mayor Dave Rya n, second place J. Balkissoon, of Mississauga and third place was M. Ross of Oshawa. BUT the story doesn’t end there, Mayor Ryan chose to donate his $1000 windfall to St. Paul’s on-the-Hill Community Food Bank and PMV Foundation.
